Safe WordPress Updates
Keep WordPress secure and running smoothly with regular updates.
Before Updating
- Backup your site - Use cPanel backup or a plugin like UpdraftPlus
- Check plugin compatibility with the new version
- Choose a low-traffic time to update
Updating WordPress Core
- Log in to wp-admin
- Go to Dashboard → Updates
- Click Update to version X.X
- Wait for completion
- Test your site
Updating Plugins
- Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins
- Update one at a time (safer)
- Test after each update
Updating Themes
- Go to Appearance → Themes
- Click the theme needing update
- Click Update Now
If Something Breaks
- Restore from your backup
- Identify which update caused the issue
- Check plugin support forums
- Contact plugin developer if needed
Automatic Updates
WordPress auto-updates minor security releases. For plugins:
- Go to Plugins
- Click Enable auto-updates for trusted plugins
Important: Always backup before major updates. Never update without a backup.
